Yup, Techniquest made me a child again!

One of the drawbacks of being 6 foot 5 is that it’s no longer an acceptable practice to get in touch with my inner child. Why isn’t there an adult sized ball pit in the local area? Why can’t I play in the soft area with all the giant crash mats and foam toys?

Well, this evening I got my chance to feel like a child again! There was an open evening at the Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, and I was invited to accompany a friend. Okay, this friend had a legitimate reason for being there, I was just a guest.

I’ll explain for those readers who aren’t familiar with Techniquest. It’s a cool Science Museum with awesome attractions designed to fuse science with fun. And, boy does it do the job well! Plasma electricity balls that allow you to touch and then transfer the static energy to light a set of lightbulbs, flashing screens that capture your silhouette for a short time on the wall behind, magnetic games and puzzles that involve squirting water at each other. It’s every 7 year old boys dream! And mine.

The best thing? I got to do this whilst drinking free wine!

Whilst my friend spoke to the staff and made legitimate enquiries into their services I decided that playing a tune on the large floor piano would be a great idea – straight out of the movie Big with Tom Hanks! I also made a cool pattern with a large weighted pencil suspended, swinging from the ceiling and played with the various bubble related attractions!

Exhibit A

It made me remember the days as a kid in Junior School on trips. I miss those days, before bills and responsibility. It was nice to reconnect with that a little.

Also, I’m a big, fucking child!
